Dramatic Old-Timey C-Pop

From K-Pop behemoths to edgy J-Rock and Tibetan folk pop, every East Asian language has strong musical representatives — except for Cantonese and Mandarin. I am guilty of calling the modern Chinese pop landscape soulless. But looking back at the '90s and 2000s, Canto and Mandopop was a totally different experience. It's dramatic, energetic and genuine in a way its modern counterparts can only hope to revive.
